ABOUT
Chindonesia: Renegotiating Identity is a film screening of 'Nama' (2021), a short film by Reisky Handika, and a panel discussion that reexamines how the long shadow of Chinese-Indonesians' repression continues to shape Indonesia’s collective identity today.
Featuring Reisky Handika, Nessa Theo, and FX Harsono, and moderated by Charlenne Kayla Roeslie, we discuss how storytelling becomes acts of resistance and reclamation.
What does it mean to inherit a silence so deep it becomes part of your identity—and how much of Indonesia’s “harmony” was built on that silence? If the oppression of a few made everyone else complicit in conformity, how free are we really in how we express who we are today? When those once silenced begin to tell the story of this nation, what kind of Indonesia do we dare to imagine next?
